Press Statement on the AU Verification Team Mission in Darfur

AFRICAN UNION – AFRICAN MISSION IN SUDAN

The leader of the AU verification team GENERAL MAHAMAT ALI ABDALLAH has left El-Fashir today for Addis Ababa to consult with the AU’s partners on the margin of the upcoming Donors Conference which will be held at the AU Headquarters on May 26, 2005.

The verification team members are continuing their contacts and consultations with the parties on the ground and in Khartoum on the modalities and technical aspects of their assignment before resumption of their work in Darfur.

It should be recalled that the Seventh High Level Session of the Joint Commission for the Ceasefire in Darfur decided at its seventh session in N’djamena last February to send a team to verify the positions occupied by the forces on the ground with a view to working out a separation plan of the forces .
