75 dead in tribal clashes in south Sudan- ICRC
KHARTOUM, May 29 (AFP) — Up to 75 people have been killed and dozens more wounded since mid-April in tribal clashes in the south of Sudan, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) said.
It said in a statement emailed to AFP that the clashes in the Gutum region, east of Yirol town in Lakes state, had broken out over grazing rights and access to water.
“The local authorities have formed two peace committees that aim to reconcile the communities involved, and have moved ‘cattle camps’ away from Yirol to avoid retaliatory lootings in the town,” the statement said.
