China to construct water pipeline for eastern Sudan
KHARTOUM, June 3, 2005 (Sudan Tribune) — The Ministry of Finance has signed an agreement with the International Chinese Company for Construction to construct a pipeline that will channel 100,000 cubic meters of water from the Nile from Atbara to Port Sudan in eastern Sudan.
The minister of finance, Zubair Ahmad al-Hassan, signed on behalf of the Sudanese government, while Jing Cheng represented the Chinese company, Sudanese radio reported.
The project will cost 345 million dollars, while the pipeline will cover 470 kilometres.
The finance minister described the agreement as an extra good effort by the eastern committee, and noted that the project represented additional achievement with regards to the major projects in the country.
He expressed hope that there would be several other projects along with the water channelling project to Port Sudan.
He made public plans for an additional railway line, and said Sudan was geared towards making great strides in development.
