African Union urges aid workers to cooperate in Darfur
AlFASHIR, June 5, 2005 (SUNA) — The commissioner of peace and security at the African Union (AU), Ambassador Said Djinnit, has urged the international and national humanitarian organizations which are operating in Darfur to work together for the sake of creating a better humanitarian situation in Darfur.
This came during his meeting with representatives of the international and national voluntary organizations in Al-Fashir town, the capital of Northern Darfur State.
He said the goal of these organizations shall basically aim at helping the needy people. The African Union official called on these organizations to assist the AU in doing its mission in Darfur.
The special envoy of the African Union’s Commission and head of its mission in Sudan stressed the importance of consultations between the African Union’s mission and the organizations which are operating in Darfur. He said that the availability of logistic support will enable the African Union’s mission to perform its task properly.
Meanwhile, representatives of the humanitarian organizations affirmed the improvement of the security and humanitarian conditions in Darfur states. They also stressed the importance of logistic support to the African Union’s mission in Darfur.
