Egypt routs Sudan 6-1 in World Cup qualifier
CAIRO, Egypt, June 5, 2005 (AP) — Abdel Halim Ali and Amr Zaki scored two goals each Sunday to help Egypt crush Sudan 6-1 in an African World Cup qualifier.
Halim Ali opened scoring in the eighth minute and added another in the 31st. Zaki scored in the 28th and 49th minutes.
Tarek el-Sayed also scored for Egypt, netting the fifth goal in the 62nd minute, and Ahmed Abdel Malek completed the rout with a goal in the 69th minute.
Haitham Tambal got one back for Sudan in the 83rd.
Egypt, which will host the next African Cup of Nations, is in third place in Group Three with 13 points, three points behind leader Ivory Coast and one point less than Cameroon.
Only the five African group winners qualify for the 2006 World Cup finals in Germany.
