12 killed, 45 injured as bus collides with truck in Sudan
KHARTOUM, Sept 7 (AFP)– Twelve people were killed and 45 others injured, some seriously, when a bus collided with a truck on Sudan’s main eastern highway some 80 kilometres (50 miles) from Port Sudan early Sunday, the regional governor said.
Speaking on Radio Omdurman, Red Sea Governor Hatim al-Shaikh al-Sammani said the Nissan bus heading to Port Sudan collided with the trailer of a truck which suddenly veered in front of it at 1:30 a.m. Sunday (2230 GMT Saturday).
He said he was awoken by the local police commissioner after the accident and both had gone to the scene to supervise rescue operations.
The injured were rushed to nearby Sinkat hospital while the dead bodies were taken to to a mortuary in Port Sudan for identification.
No details of the victims were given.
