UN welcomes Cairo deal between Sudanese govt, NDA
KHARTOUM, June 19, 2005 (SUNA) — The United Nations Mission in Sudan Sunday welcomed the reconciliation and comprehensive peace agreement signed Saturday in Cairo between the government of Sudan and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

In this regard, the Spokesperson of the UN in Sudan, Ms. Radiah Achori, said in a statement to SUNA the agreement is a new step towards the achievement of comprehensive peace in Sudan, hoping that other suspended issues would be solved soon.
Meanwhile, Achori explained that a team of the joint mechanism – between the government and the UN – has finalized its mission in West Darfur, regarding assessment of security and humanitarian situations.
She explained that other two teams will begin a similar mission in North and South Darfur in the period of 22 and 23 June.
Achori further said a comprehensive report will be filed to the Security Council by the joint mechanism on the situations in Darfur.
