Premiership appointment in Sudan not ruled out: FM

KHARTOUM, Sept 7 (AFP) — The appointment of a prime minister in Sudan could not be ruled out if it were in the interests of the country, Sudanese Foreign Minister Mustafa Osman Ismail said Sunday.

“The creation of the prime minister’s post will be acceptable if it is necessitated by the developments and the country’s interest and stability,” Dr. Ismail told journalists.

Observers expect such a post to be created and handed to First Vice-President Ali Osman Taha were his position given to rebel Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) leader John Garang once a peace agreement was reached.

Responding to a recent rumour that Presidential peace adviser Ghazi Salah Eddin Atabani had tendered his resignation, Dr Ismail said: “Atabani is still in charge of the peace issue and is still trusted by President Omar al-Beshir.”
