Sudanese NDA leader meets Egyptian president

CAIRO, June 21, 2005 (MENA) — President Mohamed Hosni Mubarak met this morning Mohamed Osman al-Mirghani, head of the Sudanese National Democratic Alliance.

The meeting was attended by Ahmad Osman al-Mirghani, former head of the state presidential council.

After the meeting, Al-Mirghani said he discussed with President Mubarak what had been agreed and the need to implement all the items set out in the agreement signed last Saturday, 18 June, in Cairo by the National Democratic Alliance and the Sudanese government.

Al-Mirghani pointed out that some items in the Cairo accord were being negotiated, indicating that positive steps had been reached early yesterday through agreement on the participation of the National Democratic Alliance in the constitution commission.

He said that the Alliance delegation had headed to Khartoum to participate today in the activities of the constitution commission, adding that a trilateral agreement had been signed by the National Democratic Alliance, Sudanese government and Sudan People’s Liberation Movement.

He added that negotiations were under way on the percentage of the National Alliance participation in the Sudanese government, indicating that the date for his return to Sudan depended on completing his national duties.

Al-Mirghani affirmed that the Sudanese people welcomed the presence of Egyptian peacekeeping troops to maintain peace and stability in various areas in Sudan.
