Arab League voices solidarity with Sudan

CAIRO, Sept 9 (KUNA) — An Arab ministerial committee Tuesday expressed solidarity with Sudan and the need to keep this Afro-Arab country united.

The committee, meeting on the sidelines of the 120th session of the Arab League Ministerial Council, rejected all attempts to divide Sudan. The committee groups foreign minsters of Sudan, Egypt, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Uited Arab Emirates, Oman, Yemen, Libya’s representative and the league’s secretary General Amr Moussa.

It stressed that Arab states has the “political will” to support the peace process in Sudan.

The committee also urged Arab countries to lend financial support towards the developments of Sudan’s southern region.

During the committee’s meetings, Sudan’s Foreign Minister Mustafa Osman Ismail presented a comprehensive report on the latest developmentsin his country and the ongoing negotiations in Kenya between the Khartoum government and the southern rebels to bring the two sides closer to a peaceful settlement.

He called on Arab funds and financial institutions that pledged to make donations toward development projects in south sudan to take part in a meeting due at the Arab League’s headquarters by year’s end.
