Sudan constitution commission concludes its works

KHARTOUM, June 25, 2005 (SUNA) — President of the Republic Omer Al- Bashir is to receive Sunday the draft interim constitution from the leadership committee of the national constitution commission, prior to presenting it before the National Assembly and the Liberation Council of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) for ratification paving the way for the beginning of the interim period on July 9.

The general committee of the commission is to convene its concluding session at 10:00 am on Sunday to approve the report of the 12-member committee on the amendments related to the rights and justice organs as part of the remarks made by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

The co- spokesman of the commission, Yassir Arman, said in the joint press briefing that the conclusion of the works of constitution commission is considered as a turning point in the history of Sudan and a boost to the process of democratic transformation in the country.

Arman affirmed that the presence of the NDA in the commission was very important, expressing hope that the remaining political forces would join the programmes of the interim period.
