Ethiopian poll violence suspect arrested for police murder
ADDIS ABABA, June 27 (AFP) — Ethiopian police on Monday arrested a former soldier, suspected of inciting electoral violence, after he allegedly shot dead a detective investigating his case in the capital, state media reported.
Former soldier Tilahun Fetene killed Teferi Fisseha, a police officer, who was pursuing him with the intention of taking him in for questioning, ENA news agency reported.
Tilahun was suspected of “distributing printed fliers liable to incite violence,” during the recent electoral period, the agency reported, quoting police.
The country’s May 15 parliamentary elections, which were the most hotly-disputed in Ethiopia’s history, sparked a wave of violent protests that resulted in 36 deaths in Addis Ababa.
