India manufacturing diesel locomotives for export to Sudan
NEW DELHI, July 12, 2005 (AsiaPulse) — Three diesel locomotives are being manufactured at Diesel Locomotive Works (DLW), Varanasi for export to Sudan.
This is the first time that a locomotive is being exported to Sudan Railway Corporation, an official release said here today.
The Cape Guage VDM-4 Diesel Electric Locomotive has DLW built 6 cylinder in line-1350 HP turbo-supercharged engine, electrical AC/DC transmission, Co-Co wheel arrangement and is equipped with air brake and dynamic brake. Some modifications hae been incororated to suit the working conditions in Sudan, the release said.
A symbolic key of the 1350 HP VDM-4 Cape Gauge Locomotive was handed over to DLW’s Marketing department at a ceremony by Minister of State for Railways R Velu during his visit to Varanasi on July 8.
He inspected manufacturing facilities at the workshop along with General Manager of DLW, Ravinder Sharma.
