Sudanese-Thai working groups stress importance of cooperation

KHARTOUM, Sep 15, 2003 (SUNA) — The Joint Sudanese-Thai Working Group, assigned to work out proposals for consolidation of the relations between Sudan and Thailand, began its meetings at the premises of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sunday.

Director of the Bilateral Relations’ Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Abu-Zayid al-Hasan, chaired the Sudanese side, while the Thai side was headed by the director of South Asia, Middle East and Africa at the Thai Foreign Ministry, Mr S Divastin.

The two sides reviewed the progress of the bilateral relations since the establishment of diplomatic representation between Khartoum and Bangkok 20 years ago.

Sudan and Thailand stressed the importance of boosting relations and cooperation in the fields of industry, agriculture, energy, transport, education and health, besides the technical cooperation as well as cooperation between the ministries of foreign affairs in the two countries and in the food industry.

Sudan and Thailand agreed to increase the commercial exchange between them as well as establishment of joint investment projects.

The two sides will continue their dialogue in Bangkok next year.
