UN seeks 22.8 million dollars to rebuild Sudan Darfur region
Khartoum, Sep 15, 2003 (dpa) — The United Nations said Monday it was seeking 22.8 million dollars to help accelerate humanitarian relief provision to the most vulnerable population groups in Sudan’s Darfur region.
UN special envoy to Sudan on humanitarian affairs Tom Vraalsen demanded that government should deal with militia groups alleged for recent killing of people following in the region.
It was an activity we believed should be dealt with by the government as soon as possible, Vraalsen stressed as he urged the government to take measures against the militia groups in Darfur.
The envoy noted that the international body further sought to provide assistance to meet urgent human survival and welfare needs and to help consolidate peace.
