Sudan president to participate in Arab summit in Egypt

KHARTOUM, July 30, 2005 (Xinhua) — Sudan announced here Saturday that President Omar al-Bashir will participate in an extraordinary Arab summit in Egypt’s Red Sea resort of Sharm al-Sheikh next Wednesday.

Foreign Minister Mustafa Osman Ismail made the announcement following his meeting with al-Bashir to deliver a summit invitation to the president from his Egyptian counterpart Hosni Mubarak, reported the official SUNA news agency.

Ismail told SUNA that the President al-Bashir had ordered the Foreign Ministry to fully cooperate with its Arab counterparts to help the summit come out with good decisions to handle the threatening situations in the Arab world.

The president expressed his keenness to lead the Sudanese delegation to the summit, said the Ismail.

President al-Bashir, meanwhile, welcomes the holding of an African summit which was called for next Thursday in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa on the reform of the United Nations, Ismail added.
