Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia plan energy projects
DUBAI – Delegations from Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia took part in a forum hoping to utilise water sources in a better way. The forum was held yesterday on the sidelines of WB-IMF meeting in Dubai. The delegations reviewed their views, which will be presented to representatives of WB-IMF to finance these projects.
Dr Fathima Ahmed Mustafa Director-General of International Cooperation and Agreements of Ministry of Energy and Electricity of Egypt said that Egypt will inform the participants about the Nile initiative.
The initiative includes seven big projects and will be implemented in assistance with 10 countries of the basin of the river. Dr Fathima said that the project seeks cooperation between the countries of the basin. She said these countries would be able to export electricity to other countries after the implementation of the project.
Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia will also participate in a project called Eastern Nile. Three delegations will submit the viability report of these projects aiming at achieving agreements to get them financed. Meanwhile, Dr Fathima presented the Egyptian projects regarding energy.
She said Egyptian government will implement 12 projects and these projects will be implemented within five years.
Sheikh Mohamed Al Maki, Director General of Resources Sector of Ministry of Finance of Sudan, praised the cooperation between the three countries and hoped this cooperation will yield fruitful results.
