Uganda and Sudan form joint committee on Garang death probe
Aug 20, 2005 (Kampala) — Uganda and Sudan have formed a joint leadership committee to guide the technical team investigating the helicopter crash which killed Sudan’s former first vice president John Garang, reported Radio Uganda on Saturday.
The committee issued a joint statement on Friday, saying that the voice and flight records of the doomed helicopter was to be sent to Russia to retract information contained therein.
The committee also agreed to form technical teams to perform specific tasks in the investigations with participating countries represented. These countries include the United States, Russia, Sudan, Kenya and Uganda.
The committee also recommended that the participating countriesin the investigation should coordinate their activities through itfor speedy establishment of the probable cause of the accident.
Ugandan Minister of Works John Nasasira heads Uganda team and Abel Alier heads that of Sudan.
