Sudan’s energy sector talks set for Nairobi
by The Nation reporter
Aug 25, 2005 (Nairobi) — An energy forum on the Sudan is set to take place in Nairobi at the end of November.
“London’s CWC Group and the local Bread of Life Africa are organising the fair“, said Donald Reid, the Nairobi firm’s executive director, on Tuesday.
Participants are expected to explore investment in oil, electricity, gas and infrastructure and convene. Details will be released shortly.
The Sudan, where peace has just returned, hosts huge unexploited reserves of oil and other natural resources. But the region has poor transport and infrastructure, though in the pipeline are a few initiatives, including a railway to Mombasa.
Mr Reid spoke as the first business charter since South Sudanese leader John Garang’s death was scheduled to fly out today.
The plane, carrying 10 CEOs from various sectors, is expected to land at Yei in the south of the country.
A briefing at Nairobi’s Jacaranda Hotel was told the Sudan held the key to Kenya’s economic progress.
