AU Chief mediator to visit Sudan next tuesday
Aug 25, 2005 (Khartoum) — African Union (AU) chief mediator for Abuja negotiations between the government and armed movements in Darfur Dr. Salim Ahmed Salim is to arrive in Khartoum next Tuesday on a 4-day visit to Sudan to conduct consultations with the government on holding the coming session of Abuja negotiations in the second half of next September.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Najib Al-Khair Abdul-Wahab said in a statement to SUNA that Dr. Salim would visit Darfur states to meet with their Walis (governors) as well as some representatives of the rebel movements within the context of deepening awareness on the principles of political resolution and the security and humanitarian protocols which were signed in the previous rounds of negotiations and to see the current situations in Darfur.
Abdul- Wahab pointed out that Dr. Salim would proceed from Khartoum to Libya and Chad for consultations with the officials there on their contributions in success of the coming round of negotiations.
The State Minister told SUNA that the government delegation to the negotiations has made the necessary preparations for making the coming round of talks as conclusive and final one to realize comprehensive peace country-wide.
