Sudanese president visits Qatar
DOHA, Sept 28 (AFP) — Sudan’s President Omar al-Beshir arrived Sunday in Qatar to inform the emir of a security accord that Khartoum has signed with southern rebels, official sources said.
Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani met Beshir at the airport, the Qatar News Agency reported.
The two men would discuss not only the peace deal, said Sudanese ambassador Mohamed Ahmed Mustafa al-Dabi, but also the Middle East situation.
The Sudan People’s Liberation Army and Khartoum signed the agreement on Thursday at peace talks in Kenya, opening the way to a permanent settlement of the country’s 20-year civil war.
