Sudanese national faces espionage charge

Aug 29, 2005 (Khartoum) — A Sudanese national will soon appear before the Khartoum criminal court to answer charges of spying for an embassy of an influential foreign power in the country’s capital, according to a press
report.

The man has been arrested after he leaked fabricated information to that embassy in which he claimed there are different terrorist groups in order to secure an entry visa to that state,” the Arabic language daily, Ray
Aam, on Monday quoted a reliable source at the Crimes against the State Prosecution as saying.

The source said the prosecution had completed its investigations and the suspect faces espionage charges under the Sudanese Criminal Act.

The perpetrator entirely admitted during investigation that he fabricated and gave baseless data about the existence of terrorists in Sudan for the sake of getting an immigration visa,” the official source affirmed without saying when the case will be tried.
