FAO says locust is under control in Sudan
Sep 2, 2005 (Khartoum) — Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) has affirmed that desert locust in Sudan is under control during the past period.
A report issued by FAO explained that the situations of desert locust in Chad and Western Sudan are still critical due to rising breeding of desert locusts, in spite of surveys and control operations in Eastern Chad.
Meanwhile, FAO’s report said that heavy rains during the past month have increased breeding of desert locusts in costal plains of the Northern Red Sea area and in Eritrea near the borders with Sudan.
However, the report said anti-locust teams have managed to deal with more than 11000 Hectares in this area.
