Sudan, Egypt discuss bilateral relations

Sept 7, 2005 (CAIRO) — Foreign Minister Mustafa Osman Ismail held talks with his Egyptian counterpart Ahmed Aboulgait Tuesday in Cairo on bilateral relations between the two countries and regional and international issues of mutual concern.

Mustafa_Osman_Ismail_1.jpgDeputy Ambassador of Sudan to Egypt Hassan Abdel-Bagi said in a statement to Sudan News Agency (SUNA) that the talks tackled cooperation between Sudan and Egypt and means of boosting and promoting the relations during the coming period to partnership level as well as the Egyptian role in the peace process in Sudan and its contribution to the rehabilitation and development in south Sudan.

Ambassador Abdel-Bagi added that the meeting tackled Darfur issue where Ismail affirmed that remarkable improvement had occurred in the humanitarian and security situations there.

He also tackled the current steps made to resume Abuja negotiations, affirming the importance that the coming session be conclusive for finding political solution for Darfur crisis.

He said that the talks also tackled the issue of the extraordinary Arab summit, where the two sides affirmed the importance of good preparations for the conference. Meanwhile, Ismail also met Arab League Secretary General Amru Musa and discussed the issues of the extraordinary Arab Summit and Darfur as well as means of boosting Afro-Arab cooperation.
