AL urges Arab countries to support development in Sudan
Sept 9, 2005 (CAIRO) — The Arab League Ministerial Council (ALMC) has urged member states to contribute to the Arab Fund in support of developmental projects in south Sudan.
According to the official Sudan News Agency (SUNA), the Council has also called on Arab funds and finance corporations to attend the coordinating meeting on development and investment in south Sudan scheduled for early next year.
The ALMC, welcoming the signing of the Declaration of Principles for solving Darfur problem, asked member states to help end humanitarian crisis in the region and back up African Union’s efforts.
The Council has welcomed the signing of the interim constitution, inauguration of the presidency and the start of the interim period in Sudan.
The ministers have urged member states to partake in the Afro-Arab exhibition, which is to be held in November in Sudan. Sudan delegation to the meeting was led by Foreign Minister Dr. Mustafa Osman Ismail.
