Sudanese opposition NDA to hold talks with Kiir, Taha in Cairo

Sept 9, 2005 (KHARTOUM) — In a new development aimed at resolving the crisis over the participation of the opposition National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the transitional government, the NDA leader Mohamed Osman al-Mirghani has resolved to invite the First Vice-President Salva Kiir Mayardit and Second Vice-President Ali Osman Mohamed Taha to an emergency meeting to be held in the next 72 hours in Cairo, Egypt.

M_Osman_Al_merghani.jpgIn this regard, NDA deputy chairman Abdelrahman Saeed has started communicating with the leadership of the NDA affiliated parties to inquire about their opinion regarding participation in the transitional government before the holding of NDA leadership meeting to discuss strategies and the way forward on how to return members back to the country.

According to the independent Al-Sahafa newspaper, NDA spokesman Hatim al-Sir said NDA chairman has directed his deputy Abdelrahman Saeed to communicate with heads of the NDA affiliate parties to inquire whether they would like to participate in the transitional government based on proposals presented by the government, according to which NDA will be given two posts of federal ministers, one of state minister, as well as 20 parliamentary seats.

Al-Sir further said Al-Mirghani had requested that the outcome of the communication effort being made by his deputy and a report on the meeting by the NDA’s political committee with the ruling National Congress, which was held in Khartoum should be submitted to him within 48 hours.
