Kenyan KCB bank names S. Sudan branch head

Sept 12, 2005 (NAIROBI) — State-run Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) has appointed bank
executive Martin Oduor as deputy chief executive officer to oversee its
operations in Southern Sudan in a move to expanding its regional
operations.

Announcing the appointment Monday, KCB chief executive Terry Davies said
Oduor would be tasked with the establishment of the proposed KCB
subsidiary in Southern Sudan and coordinating the activities of the KCB
subsidiaries in Tanzania.

Underscoring the importance KCB, Kenya’s biggest commercial bank,
attaches to regional expansion, Davis said Oduor’s responsibilities
include “developing a cohesive regional strategy which will enable KCB to
achieve its mission of being the preferred provider of financial
solutions to the region.”

A Chartered Public Accountant (CPA) and fellow of the Institute of
Certified Public Accountants, Oduor is former permanent secretary of
Kenya treasury and an official of Barclays Bank’s Africa Regional Office
in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Since the signing of a peace deal between the Khartoum government and the
rebel Sudan People’s Liberation Movement/Army to end 21 years of civil
war, Kenyan financial and manufacturing industries have been eyeing the
vast potential of the southern Sudan market.
