SPLM to name delegates for Abuja talks

Sept 13, 2005 (JUBA) — The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) is currently engaged in consultations at the level of the higher leadership to name its members who will join the government delegation for the negotiations in Abuja with the Drafur rebels groups.

Majdoub_Ahmed_Nigerian_Babagana_Kingibe.jpgIn a statement to SUNA, the Vice President of South Sudan Government, Riek Machar, said that the SPLM leadership will provide its representatives for the negotiations with directives that will help them contribute to restoration of mutual confidence and surpassing the difficulties which could confront the negotiation process.

He said that participation of more than one SPLM member at Abuja talks will enable the movement to play an effective role in the process for reaching peace in Darfur.

Machar said that SPLM enjoys acceptance and confidence of the leaders of the rebel movements of Darfur.

Meanwhile, He said that the First Vice – President of the Republic and President of South Sudan Government, Lt. Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit, currently in Juba, will return to Khartoum on Wednesday after intensive meetings and consultation aimed to prepare lists on members of the Council of South Sudan and the legislative councils of the southern states.

He announced that the Council of South Sudan will hold its first sitting on next Monday.
