Sept 14, 2005 (KHARTOUM) — A spokesman of Sudan’s armed forces has denied that government forces launched an attack on Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM) positions in Darfur.
SLM chairman AbdelWahed Mohamed al-Nur accused the government of attacking SLM positions in south of Al-Fashir during the past three days, saying violence had continued until yesterday morning.
Al-Nur said the attack had led to the killing and injury of 200 people, and Khartoum had resorted to these attacks in order to hinder the Abuja talks.
The Justice and Equality Movement expressed its hope that the sixth round of the Abuja talks, which is set to start tomorrow, would solve the disputed issues.
For his part, SLM Secretary-General Mani Arkoi Minawi said “I do not feel optimistic about the success of the talks.”.
