Sudan invites Ugandan official to Khartoum talks

KAMPALA, Oct 1, 2003 (Xinhua) — The Sudanese government has invited Alhajji Moses Kigongo, vice chairman of Uganda’s ruling National Movement, to Khartoum as part of the efforts to bring the two countries together, reported The New Vision newspaper on Wednesday.

The invitation was delivered by Sudanese deputy ambassador and minister plenipotentiary Mohammed Eisa Ismail Dahab to Kigongo at his office in Kampala on Tuesday.

Present were special assistant to President Yoweri Museveni Major Jackob Asiimwe, deputy director for information at the Movement secretariat Alice Muwanguzi and Kigongo’s political assistant Faisal Ssali Kikulukunyu.

The meeting between the two government officials will begin next week in Khartoum.

“We are expecting a delegation from Sudan to Uganda to brief President Museveni about the outcome of the talks in Kenya between the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) and the government in the next two to four days,” Dahab said.

“Our president highly appreciate the role of President Yoweri Museveni in the Sudan peace talks,” he added.

Kigongo said he would consult on the invitation but said such interactions help to normalize relations.

“Meetings are healthy but our emphasis is to implement what has been agreed upon. If what was agreed upon is not implemented the meetings become useless,” he added.
