Sudanese central bank to issue new national currency in 2006
Sept 25, 2005 (KHARTOUM) — The governor of the Central Bank of Sudan, Sabir Mohamed al-Hassan, has announced that the bank is now prepared to issue the new national currency in the first quarter of 2006 provided financial support is available.
Sabir said he regretted the delay in issuing the new currency which was due to the lack of necessary financing within the bank.
He said neither the Inter-Governmental Authority for Development (IGAD) partners nor donors had so far, contributed a penny towards issuing the new currency.
On the other hand, the National Assembly, approved in its session Sunday the report of the Ad Hoc Committee No. 2 on bill of Bank of Sudan Act (amendment) for the year 2005 in the final reading stage Meanwhile, the National Assembly has decided to adjourn its sessions till the 14th. of next November.
