Sudan’s Salav Kiirs appeals for support to national unity

Sept 26, 2005 (KHARTOUM) — Sudan’s First Vice-President Salva Kiir Mayardit, has called on the supporters of unity to defeat the preachers of separation and work with dedication towards the choice of unity “so that the government of national unity does not fail in developing the country”.

General_Salva_Kiir.jpgAccording to the Independent Al-Ayam, Kiir said separation would weaken both the south and north. “The North will not remain as it is, instead the disease of separation will spread to Darfur and the East” he added.

Speaking to a group of Shukria tribesmen Kiir said the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) endeavours to achieve national unity.

Regarding the ministry of energy, Kiir said he refused to accept that by conceding the ministry to the National Congress he had sold out on the south.

Kiir appealed to all those who were marginalized in Sudan to support the government of National unity “to change the old Sudan”.

He reiterated his warning that the war in Darfur would spread to some southern states “if efforts are not combined to resolve the Darfur problem as soon as possible.”

He said the SPLM was serious in resolving the problem “any delays in resolving it will transfer the war to the south” he added.
