Appeal to contain & resolve clashes between Moru, Dinka in Mundri County

Local Authorities, Mundri County Office of the Executive Directors MUNDRI COUNTIES (EAST & WEST)

The IDPs (Dinka Bor) and the Moru (host) community have been fighting for the last two-weeks because the cows have been destroying farms of the host community (Moru). The clashes mainly concentrating in Kediba payam and part of Lzoh in Eastern Mundri and has resulted into a number of causalities, it has also caused displacement of women, elders, and children, in the whole county.

Until to date the clashes is still continuing in Eastern Mundri and tension has been building un in Lui, Mundri and Kotobl to some extent as such communities in these areas are living in fear and some abandoned their homes and run to the bush. At the same time they were many women and children displaced from Kedlba to Lui and some from Lui Mundri and Kotobi. The two local authorities have requested from NGOs & WFP to provide food to the displaced people.

The local authorities of the two counties have written to the office of governor of Western Equatoria State so that support can be sent to the area to arrest the situation but the response was slow and not forthcoming. With this the authorities of the two counties in consultation with the ONGs have decided to raise the security level in the two counties as follows:

– 1. Mundri East-security level four
– 2. Mundri West-security level three

These levels will be effective as from the date of this letter, and the local authorities of the two counties will update NGOs, authorities and the community with the security situation in the counties on regular basis.
