French president phones Sudanese counterpart, congratulates him on peace deal

The president of the republic, Staff Lt-Gen Umar al-Bashir, today received a telephone call from the French president, Jacques Chirac. The French president congratulated Gen Al-Bashir on the agreement which was signed between the government and the people’s movement [Sudan People’s Liberation Movement], concerning security and military arrangements recently in Naivasha, Kenya.

The Sudan News Agency said that President Chirac expressed to Gen Al-Bashir France’s willingness to support the peace process in Sudan and help to reconstruct what has been destroyed by the war.
