Joint probe team to resume investigations on Garang crash
Oct 11, 2005 (KHARTOUM) — The joint probe team investigating the plane crash of the former First Vice President John Garang, which includes Sudan, Uganda, Kenya and USA, will resume its work which began two months ago, tomorrow in Kampala.
The rapporteur in the national committee and member of the international team, Ambassador Siraj Eddin Hamid said that the work of the joint team would concentrate on analysing information which had been gathered so as to arrive to the facts of what happened in Dr John Garang’s plane.
The Sudanese team taking part in the joint team, led by former Sudanese vice president Abel Alier will head for Kampala this evening.
The Sudanese national probe team, which is made up of 23 people, had visited the site where the plane crashed and did the necessary scanning. It is now in the phase of analysing and writing a report to prepare and present it to the president of the republic.
Sudanese President Omar al-Beshir extended the mandate of the team investigating the circumstances of the July 30 death in a helicopter crash of former Sudanese First Vice-Presidrnt John Garang.
The international committee had originally been given a month to complete its investigation but now has a mid-December deadline.
