Ethiopia’s electricity body signs US$52 contracts with India, China

Oct 17, 2005 (ADDIS ABABA) — The Ethiopia’s Electric Power Corporation (EEPCo) has signed a 450 million Birr agreement on Monday for the installation of the Alamata- Kombolcha-Kotebe-Kaliti 230 KV electric power transmission line and construction of power distribution station.

The Corporation has signed the agreement with the Indian KALPATARU Power Transmission Limited and the Chinese WANBAO Engineering Corporation for the installation of 465 kilometers of electric power transmission line and construction of two power distribution stations, respectively.

It was indicate that the projects are expected to be finalized in 30 months period.

Speaking at the agreement signing ceremony, EEPCo General Manager Mihret Debebe said as the line would be used to transmit the electric power generated at the Tekeze power generating station to the central power store, the government has given special attention for the project.

KALPATARU General Manager, S.D. Khanan and WANBAO Engineering Corporation Project Manager, Qi Yue also on their part said their respective companies will exert all efforts to finalize and handover the project in accordance with the agreement.
