Sudan’s Beshir receives list for southern government
Oct 19, 2005 (KHARTOUM) — The Sudanese president Omar al-Beshir, has received the list of interim set up for the southern government which will begin its duties after it is has been approved until the draft constitution for the south has been passed.
The first vice-president and president of the south’s envoy, Justin Yak, handed over the list of the set up to the president of the republic at the Guest House today.
In a statement to the state- run SUNA, Yak said that the list was formed according to what had been stated in the peace agreement and which allotted 70 per cent to the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM), 15 per cent to the National Congress (NC) and 15 per cent to the other southern parties.
Justin Yak, who did not want to go into details about the set up until the president looked into it, said that the southern parliament had finalized the phase of the first reading of the interim constitution. He said that the specialized committees had began detailed discussions which are expected to last over a week before being presented to the attorney general.
The first vice president envoy expressed his hopes that all donor countries and institutions would commit to their pledges towards the peace process in reconstructing and development in the south.
He added that there were a number of arrangements and measures connected to the peace agreement that had began implementation on the ground, especially concerning the cease-fire, organization of the army and setting up joint units.
