Al-Beshir hails China’s stance towards Sudan
Oct 24, 2005 (KHARTOUM) — The Sudanese President Omar al-Beshir, has expressed his appreciation to China for its stance towards Sudan at international forums as well as its continued commitment to strengthen bilateral ties at different levels.
Addressing a high-level Chinese military delegation led by the Deputy Chairman of the Central Military Committee, Gen. Chu Xi Khu, at the Guest House today, al-Beshir said China’s support for Sudan in the past has enabled the country to overcome foreign pressures subjected to.
This, he said, had made a number of countries to change their own stances and had encouraged other countries to make huge investments in Sudan.
Al-Beshir said he was looking forward to the Chinese president’s visit to the country so that the Sudanese people could express their gratitude and appreciation to the Chinese government and its people.
In this regard, the minister of national defence, Staff Lt-Gen Abdelrahim Mohamed Hussein, lauded the developed level of ties between the two countries in different aspects, attributing this to the number of Chinese investments in Sudan.
In a statement to the state-run SUNA news agency, Hussein said the military talks which took place between the two countries touched on the possibility of developing ties at different levels.
He described the Chinese delegation’s visit as an indication that the Chinese leadership was interested in Sudan.
The minister of defence said a proposed plan to develop and improve the armed forces according to the demands of the peace agreement, and the support China could offer in this regard, received great response from the Chinese side.
He added that a Chinese technical delegation would visit the country soon to discuss cooperation and exchange of expertise between the two countries.
The high-level Chinese military delegation, which includes 19 commanders began its visit to the country yesterday and held talks with the minister and commanders in the Ministry of National Defence.
The delegation will visit some sites before ending their visit tomorrow.
