Nuer MPs in S. Sudan parliament protest against poor representation

Oct 30, 2005 (JUBA) — The Nuer Caucus in South Sudan parliament protested to the First Vice President and President of South Sudan government Salva Kiir against the poor Nuer representation in the national and regional governments. The SPLM Caucus Nuer in southern Sudan Legislative Assembly sent an open letter to Salva Kiir complaining about the “ongoing marginalization policy” of Nuer community which is the second largest ethic group the South. The Caucus mentioned there is just one Nuer in the government of National Unity among SPLM ministers: Timothy Tot Chol as State Minister of Industry. In the Government of Southern Sudan there are two ministers: Riek Machar the Vice-President of Southern Sudan government, minister of Housing, Land and P. Utilities and John luk Jok minister of Culture, Youth and Sports. The Nuer MPs said such situation targets the heart of the unity of Southerners and also does not relate to the SPLM’s vision and goals which advocates for justice and equal representation for all ethnic groups in the government.
