S. Sudan delegation visits Rwanda to learn about reconciliation

Nov 12, 2005 (KIGALI) — A delegation from the Sudanese Peace and Reconciliation Commission of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) is in the country to learn from Rwanda’s experience in terms of reconciliation.

Speaking to reporters, the head of the delegation, James Kok, said they hoped to learn a lot from Rwanda like its unity and reconciliation process, repatriating refugees, as well as, setting up a unique army force.

The delegation met the ombudsman, Tito Rutaremara, yesterday, who explained to them Rwandan history right from colonial rule where he said that colonialists played a leading role in destroying the Rwandan community.

The delegation also met officials from the National Unity and Reconciliation Commission, Radio Rwanda reported.

During their stay, they will visit the genocide memorial site in Gisozi, visit genocide survivors’ associations – Avega Agahozo and Ibuka – as well as, Gacaca [semi-autonomous community] courts, among others.
