Sudan-US, Kiir says affirmed seriousness of parties to peace process

Nov 13, 2005 (KHARTOUM) — The First Vice President said that he affirmed to the American officials the seriousness of the two parties to the Comprehensive Peace Agreement to (CPA) implement the agreement, in a report presented to during a meeting of Sudanese Council of ministers.

Kiir_Us_Rice.jpgDuring an official visit during thee first week of the current November, Salva Kiir Mayardit held discussions with the US Vice President Dick Cheney, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, members of Congress and a number of top US Administration members.

The Council of Ministers, chaired by president Omer Al-Bashir, Sunday lauded outcome of the recent visit of the First Vice – President, Salva Kiir, to the United States and his meeting with the US administration.

Kiir said that he informed the American officials that the delay in implementation of some aspects of the peace agreement was attributed to certain objective reasons which had nothing to do with the desire of two parties to implement the agreement.

In a press statement after the Cabinet’s meeting, the Secretary General and spokesperson of the Council of Ministers, Omer Mohamed Salih, said that Kiir told the US administration that the government delegation for the coming talks in Abuja with Darfur rebel groups will include all the parties of the national unity government.

Salih said that the First Vice – President also informed the American officials that the renewal of the US economic sanctions on Sudan will not be in the interest of the peace process in the country.

In different statements, Salav Kiir pointed out that he did not visit Washington to discuss the sanctions imposed by the United States on Sudan
