EU donates 90m euros to Sudan for war-affected areas

Nov 14, 2005 (KHARTOUM) — State Minister at the Ministry of Finance and National Economy Luwal Deng discussed with the delegation of the European Union how to make use of the 90-million euro allocated by the EU to development and rehabilitation of the Sudan.

The two sides agreed to assign some 40 million euros to support development in Darfur while the other 50 million euros to support the development in the States of Eastern Sudan and the South as well as the other war-affected areas.

The Minister affirmed keenness to implement the project of the Comprehensive Development Vision by focusing on the war-affected areas, urging the EU to contribute in development of Darfur.

On his part, the European official explained that the EU is keen to enhance Sudan’s economic capacities in order to make use of the funds which are expected to flow to Sudan from the international financial institutions in domains of rehabilitation and development of the war-affected areas.
