Italian official in Sudan for talks on cooperation, bilateral ties

Nov 16, 2005 (KHARTOUM) — The Italian Deputy Foreign Minister, Senator Alfredo Mantica, will start an official visit to Sudan on Thursday 17 November. he will meet a number of officials to discuss cooperation and bilateral ties.

In a statement to the state-run Sudan News Agency the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Jamal Mohamed Ibrahim, said the visit was within the framework of the developing bilateral ties.

Jamal said the Italian deputy foreign minister would meet officials in the Presidency of the Republic and the ministries of foreign affairs and investment.

The meetings will discuss ties and ways of developing them at different levels. A memorandum of understanding will be signed between the two countries regarding cooperation at different levels like the establishment of a bilateral committee for consultations on the signing of a multi-dimensional bilateral cooperation agreement on political, economic, cultural and humanitarian aspects as well as an agreement to encourage and protect investments between the two countries.

The spokesperson said the Italian official would visit Northern Darfur State and meet the regional government as well as look into the situation on the ground.

He will also meet representatives of Italian voluntary organizations in Darfur, as well as visit Juba town.

Italy was chosen to be a member of the committee to evaluate the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement.
