Sudanese army says combing border of Chadian mutineers

Nov 19, 2005 (KHARTOUM) — The Sudanese Armed Forces has combed all the locations of the Chadian dissident forces, which penetrated the Sudanese borders and settled in the area of Jabal Moun, the spokesperson of the army said in a press release .

The statement said taht the orders were issued after having informed the Organization of African Unity’s delegation monitoring the cease-fire in Darfur of the operation.

The Western Command of the Armed Forces conducted operations in Jabal Moun on 16 -18 November 2005 to expel the Chadian dissident forces and to force them outside the Sudanese territories, resulting in destroying large part of the force and capturing one of its elements.

A statement issued yesterday 18 November evening by the official Spokesman of the Armed Forces, Gen. Abbas Abdelrahman Khalifa, said the Chadian rebel forces had chosen the area of Jabal Moun because of its suitable position as a safe and secured area in which they can stay for a long time.

There was no immediate information on the number of casualties on both sides.

Gen. Khalifa explained that the first group of Chadian rebel forces, consisted of 120 elements led by Brig. Yahaya Dalou Giro and other 13 officers crossed the Sudanese borders on 20th October, 2005, in 13 Land Cruisers vehicles.

The Chadian rebel forces assembled themselves in banditries and started to target the citizens and their properties, the herdsmen, relief vehicles and the water-supply tanks to the area under different names.

On 2 November, Sudan has arrested and disarmed more than 20 Chadian army defectors near the common border after a September mutiny in the east of the country.
