US Congress delegation to arrive in Khartoum

KHARTOUM, Oct. 11, 2003 — A US Congress delegation will in the coming few days arrive in Khartoum at the invitation of the [Sudan] government to assess recent peace progress in Sudan, signed in Naivasha on issues of military and security arrangements.
Sudanese ambassador in Washington Khadar Harun, said the visit comes in the wake of exchanging opinion regarding the outstanding [peace] issues in a transparent way.
He disclosed that talks had been held with [US] religious organizations briefing them on the situation inside Sudan, leading to some of them drop their [previous] negative attitude [towards Sudan].
Mr Harun said US declared policy towards Sudan is being masterminded by a section of US communities and organizations. However, the US aims at establishing relations with Sudan for being the biggest country in Africa and the meeting point between African and the Middle East
