Salva Kiir to sign South Sudan constitution next week

Nov 28, 2005 (KHARTOUM) — The First Vice-President and President of the Government of Southern Sudan, Lt. Gen. Salva Kiir, is due to sign next week in Juba city the Constitution for Southern Sudan, after its adoption by the Legislative Assembly of South Sudan.

Salva_Kiir_ap.jpgThe Ministry of Justice has issued a document affirming compatibility of the Constitution of South Sudan with the peace agreement and the National Constitution of Sudan for the Interim Period.

Salva Kiir received Monday at the Republican Palace a delegation of the Legislative Assembly for South Sudan and appreciated the deliberations about the Constitution for South Sudan and its ratification, in the context of the comprehensive peace agreement.

In a press statement to the state-run SUNA, Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly for South Sudan, Tor Deng, said that the Constitution for South Sudan represents the biggest guarantee for the national unity in Sudan and a major accomplishment and contribution to the national work.

Deng further said that the Constitution aims to boost the political, economic and social stability in the south and the national unity and the development process.
