Danish Prince visits AU in Sudan
Nov 30, 2005 (KHARTOUM) — A high-level fourteen -member Danish delegation led by, Prince Joachim of Denmark, including the Danish Minister of Defense and the Cairo-based Danish Ambassador accredited to the Sudan paid a visit to the African Union Mission in Sudan (AMIS) Headquarters in Khartoum today.
According to a press statement issued by AMIS, the delegation was welcomed by the Acting Head of Mission, Abdourahman Ahmed Ibrahim, on behalf of the Special Representative of the AU Chairperson who is currently attending the Inter-Sudanese Peace Talks at Abuja.
He expressed regret for the absence of the SRCC, who, he said, but for the meeting in Abuja would have loved to receive them himself.
He also thanked the government and the people of Denmark for the immense contribution they are making as a country and collectively through the EU to support AMIS in its human capacity-building efforts and sustenance of the EU Peace Facility Fund.
The Acting Head of Mission briefed the delegation on the progress of the Abuja Peace Talks and the challenges facing the African Mission.
This was completed by an update on the current security situation in Darfur by the Military Adviser.
On its part, the Danish delegation expressed its satisfaction with AMIS operations and also pledged continued support to AMIS in all its endeavors and in particular in enhancing capacity building.
