Darfur direct talks on power sharing postponed to 1 December

Nov 30, 2005 (ABUJA) — Peace talks between the government and the rebels movements on power sharing which were expected to take place today have been postponed to tomorrow afternoon, Thursday 1 December in accordance to a request by the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM).

Majzoub_Al-Khalifa1.jpgIn a statement to the state-run SUNA, the official spokesman of the government delegation, Amin Hassan Omar, said that the meeting was postponed until tomorrow after the AU presented a reconciliatory suggestion about the federal system of which, the JEM later on asked for a postponement so as to study the suggestion.

Amin Hassan said that the government delegation had agreed to the postponement to give all the parties time to study the documents to enable deliberations tomorrow.

Amin said that principle talks have taken place to discuss power sharing next week. He said that the government delegation had presented the names of its negotiators in the three AU committees which includes, power sharing, wealth sharing and security arrangement.
