Turabi re-elected secretary general of Popular Congress

Dec 1, 2005 (KHARTOUM) — The Shura consultative body of the opposition Popular National Congress (PNC) yesterday re-elected Hasan Abdallah al-Turabi as party Secretary-General.

Al-Turabi received a majority of the votes following heated discussions between party members particularly younger members who had nominated Musa al-Mak Kur for the position of secretary-general.

In a report on the history of the PNC presented at start of the meeting, Al-Turabi launched a fierce attack on the government accusing it of not extending the freedom of expression to the public.
