SPLM official accuses government bodies of corruption

Dec 2, 2005 (KHARTOUM) — The northern sector political officer for the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM), Agwak Makur, has made direct accusations regarding the prevalence of corruption in some government bodies, the squandering of public funds and that the public treasury has become the one-party treasury.

Speaking to leaders of the Maydub tribe yesterday, Makur said the SPLM would continue to exert pressure on the government until every clause of the peace agreement was implemented, the Sudanese daily Alwan reported.

Makur further stressed the SPLM was striving to monitor the national budget and the use of oil and animal resources in order for citizens to enjoy health and education services.

Makur said he regretted the SPLM was described as racist but saying it was a national party which included all sons of Sudan.

The chief of Al-Maydub had previously listed reasons for some of his tribes’ men joining the SPLM.
